Night Tours

We run a wide range of popular night tours at South Brisbane Cemetery and other select cemeteries. This is a great way to experience the unique atmosphere of a large heritage cemetery at night in the comfort of a group setting. Our friendly award-winning guides are happy to chat with you and answer questions during the tour, and pride themselves on presenting historically factual information. The tours are all not-for-profit and help fund our cemetery history and maintenance projects. Secrets of the South Brisbane Cemetery
Discover some amazing-but-true hidden stories about the cemetery, such as: The murderers under the road; 96 people in a grave? Lost residents; Disappearing headstones; Bodies from another cemetery.. and more! For ages 10 years and up.

Gruesome Graveyards
This night tour focusses on some of the more macabre aspects and amazing stories about Queensland cemeteries, including grave robbing, floods, the disposal of hanged prisoners, decomposition, and cemetery superstitions. For ages 12 years and over.

Murder and Mayhem!
Hear tragically true graveside tales of grisly murders, suicide, lethal insanity, contested burials, and hangings involving those who were laid to rest within this historical cemetery. Suitable for ages 12 years and over.

Hangman’s Walk: South Brisbane Cemetery
Visit the graves of people involved in executions, including the hangman and those he hanged, to tell the bloody story of hanging in Queensland. Contains adult themes and confronting imagery. For ages 14 years and over.

Ghost Stories of South Brisbane Cemetery
Not a typical ‘ghost tour’. Join a cemetery historian, a paranormal historian, and a (skeptical) professional historian for a walk around the cemetery as they look at the folklore (and fakelore) of ghost stories. For ages 12 years and over.

The Women of South Brisbane Cemetery
Walk through a beautiful cemetery at night and visit the graves of people whose stories – both tragic and inspirational – tell us a lot about the lives of women in Queensland’s past. Contains adult themes. Suitable for ages 12 years and over.

Folklore, Myth & Magick
A fascinating night tour of the South Brisbane Cemetery looking at historical folklore, superstitions, magick spells, and ancient symbolism associated with death and cemeteries. For ages 10 years and up.

Haunts of Brisbane presents: Tragic Tales of Toowong Cemetery
Hear amazing true stories of the Moreton Bay convict era, Brisbane’s lost graveyard, horrific hangings, bloody murders, and  tales of the ghosts that are ‘said’ to reside within Toowong Cemetery. For ages 14 years and over.

Hangman’s Walk: Toowong Cemetery
Visit the graves of  the hangman and those he hanged to hear the bloody story of executions in Queensland. This tour has similar themes to the South Brisbane Cemetery ‘Hangman’s Walk’, but with different people. For ages 14 years and over.

Haunts of Brisbane: South Brisbane Cemetery
Join ‘Haunts of Brisbane’ creator Liam Baker at South Brisbane as he shares amazing true stories of lunatic asylums, scandalous burials, bubonic plague, a ‘hijacked’ burial, and some ghostly tales. For ages 14 years and up.

Ghosts of the City: Toowong Cemetery
Join Queensland’s leading paranormal historian and ‘Haunts of Brisbane‘ creator Liam Baker in the beautiful Toowong Cemetery to explore some of the fascinating ghost stories that have been a part of Brisbane folklore for decades.

My Bloody Valentine
A haunting night tour of the South Brisbane Cemetery featuring tragic graveside tales of star-crossed lovers, broken hearts, and crimes of passion. A reminder of what can happen when love and/or hate go wrong. For ages 14 years and up.

Easy Access Tours
We provide Easy Access cemetery tours (day or night) especially for people with accessibility issues. These tours cater to those groups who might prefer easier walking, or are in wheelchairs. These tours last for no more than 1.5 hours. They can be booked as private tours.

Private Group Night Tours
Explore the cemetery at night with our guides and just you and your friends. Perfect for workplace socials, etc, Choose from the different tours above, or tailor your own tour. Just $10 per person, minimum of ten people per group. Dates subject to availability.

All our tours are not-for-profit and run by the Friends of South Brisbane Cemetery (Inc.) in a community partnership with the Boggo Road Gaol Historical Society (Inc.). Tours are conducted under license from the Brisbane City Council. All profits go towards our cemetery heritage projects and FOSBC community activities.
