I went on a tour a little while back and Tracey was a fantastic guide, who was very knowledgable. I understand she grew up in the area and her recollection of the cemetary from her childhood years only compliments her passion for the history of the cemetary. She is extremely approachable and loves answering questions and talking about the history of the area.’ Jo Collins (July 2019)

Thank you for a very interesting, very informative tour this morning. My children and I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot.’ Kristle Jones (Graveyard Explorer, June 2019)
The volunteers who conduct the guided tours are friendly and entertaining and the tours are very educational. It’s fascinating to learn about the lives of some of the souls who now rest in this cemetery beside the Brisbane River. I’ve been on four different tours so far, and each one focuses on different cemetery “residents”. Numbers for the tours are limited so there’s plenty of chances to ask questions as you walk from grave to grave. One section of the cemetery was reserved for prisoners who were hanged in the Brisbane goal and the tour guides have many stories about that period of our history. The cemetery is situated on 27 acres and while a lot of the walking is on sealed roads, a lot is between the graves and on uneven ground. Most of the cemetery is on sloping ground so you need to wear sensible shoes, and you are told to bring a torch. On moonlit nights you hardly need the torch but some nights can be as black as pitch. I love history and this is a wonderful way of learning about some of Brisbane’s early history. A selection of reasonably priced books about the cemetery and about many of its residents are available for purchase prior to the beginning of the tour. They are really good. The organisers are all volunteers and are to be congratulated. Children are welcome but must be supervised. Keep up the good work guys!‘ Joy Neeson (May 2019)
