Hangman’s Walk: South Brisbane Cemetery (night tour)

April 28 @ 7:30 pm - 9:45 pm

$10 – $15

A special experience. Explore a beautiful heritage-listed cemetery under the stars with the people who know it best, and discover some Real History. Your friendly guides value the integrity of historical accuracy, and are more than happy to chat with you and answer your questions.

Join us for a special Real History night tour through the very special South Brisbane Cemetery, led by capital-punishment historian Christopher Dawson. We visit the graves of different people who were involved in executions – including the hangman himself – and tell the incredible background story of hanging in Queensland.

We will look at how hangings were conducted; how death came for the hanged; how laws changed over time; who could and who couldn’t watch hangings; the amazing tales of hangmen; where in Brisbane the executions took place; and how Queensland became the first part of the British Empire to abolish capital punishment.

This tour contains adult themes and is suitable for children aged 14 years up.
