Cemetery Anniversary Day
May 8 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree
There will be a very special open day held at the South Brisbane Cemetery on Saturday 8 May to mark the anniversary of its official opening back in May 1870.
This is a follow up the event that the Friends of South Brisbane Cemetery had planned for the 150th anniversary last year, which was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic.
We will be unveiling the 150th anniversary marker (again) in the presence of relatives of the cemetery residents, and there will then be two public history talks (‘History of the Cemetery’, and ‘Headstone Detective’), self-guided tours, undertaker display, food and drink stalls, headstone cleaning demos, help with family history, a book stall, a cemetery photo display, and symbol hunts.
Please note that parking is very limited, so unless there are special circumstances we ask attendees to either do ‘drop off’ only or use public transport if you can. There are train and bus stops very close by. Please email us if you have queries about this.
